Dr. Renuka is an RCI registered Rehabilitation Psychologist who works with children, teens, and adults. She has worked for more than two decades in a variety of settings, including psychiatry OPDs in hospitals, private mental health clinics, corporate EAPs, schools and in the community.
She is dedicated in helping her clients become more mindful and make meaningful and lasting changes so that they can create a new path forward. Everyone’s life experiences are unique, therapy with her looks different for each of her clients. Her therapeutic approach is compassionate, integrated and theory driven; drawing from a variety of approaches such as ACT, DBT, EFT, CBT and Play therapy to treat a range of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma & PTSD, interpersonal conflict, loss, parent-child & school related concerns.
Master’s Internship - Gained exposure during Master's Internship in Psychiatry OPD at AIIMS ( All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) & later worked as research officer in WHO, ICMR and Pfizer sponsored research projects at the same Institute on topics related to stress in children and study of socio-demographic factors in youth and adults having major depressive disorder.
Dr. Dutta was invited as a Visting Scholar at the University of North Texas, USA. Completed Introduction & Advanced Graduate courses in Child-Centered Play Therapy under the supervision of Dr. Garry Landreth (Founder & Director Emeritus- Center for Play Therapy, UNT, USA). Also completed Appraisal in Child & Adolescent Counseling course at the same university. Studied appraisal of various concepts and psychological procedures to assess learning and behavioural patterns in children.
Dr. Dutta participated in a Global Partnership Program of the Department of Psychiatry at Boston Children's Hospital (Harvard Medical School teaching Hospital, USA). Clinically she met with many members of BCH to exchange knowledge and information about clinical treatment of children and adolescents with mental disorders as well as plans for developing programs and training. She observed services in psychiatry consultation service, school based mental health programs, child protection services and specialty out-patient clinics related to behavioural medicine, neuropsychology and developmental disorders. She participated in core training programs including didactics and seminars provided to psychiatry and psychology trainees at BCH. This training exposed her to latest techniques which she now uses in her work with children, teens and young adults.
Adult Therapy Training -
Child & Adolescent Mental Health Unit – Completed a three month posting in Child & Adolescent Mental Health unit at NIMHANS, Bangalore, India under the supervision of Dr. Malavika Kapur (Head of the Department, Clinical Psychology). Received training to conduct psychological assessment and therapies with children and adolescents.
Child Counselling & Child Protection : Worked part-time as the Child Protection Officer and the Primary School Counsellor for ten years at The British School, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
Dr. Dutta is the co-author of chapters on Play Therapy and has published several papers in National and International Journals. She has presented in seminars, workshops and has been invited to deliver lectures at Universities. She has passed UGC National Level Test for Eligibility for Lectureship in Universities/Colleges. She continues to offer online training in psychotherapy to psychology trainees.
